Great Work,

FYI, Hayes career did not end in drug use. He was arrested and plead guilty to drug charges in 1979 (well, after his retirement).

His playing career ended because he got old and no one would give him a job.

Truly amazing forensic work here. I'd love to know of other cases you've solved!

[I don't think it's particularly amazing, but I hope it was a little entertaining! I've been involved in about a half dozen other cases... sometimes I talk about them at conferences and the like. The most prominent was the Bush National Guard memos, in which I first used the approach shown above. I followed up a couple of years later on my Adobe blog, as well. - T]

Brilliant stuff! I always LOVE these type forgery documents - they nicely demonstrate how subliminal type is :-)

This was enjoyable, Thomas—I remember working on a very fun one with you years ago. Brought back good memories.

[Oh, right, the forged-debt-in-the-divorce incident, with the LaserJet version of Univers with the smallish $ sign. That was an interesting case. Although the lawyer withdrew the document from consideration, when the state police last talked to me they were considering pressing criminal charges against the the husband and possibly the lawyer. I don't know what happened afterwards. I should find out.... - T]

In the old days, they could tell the typewriter by the way the keys hit the paper. Now it's a bit tougher, and takes an expert. Good job!
